Where Digital Meets Personal in Financial Planning

Maintaining a holistic, client-centric and personal approach in an increasingly digital financial planning landscape is an ongoing balancing act.

At SpringGen, we offer a digital-first, bespoke personal financial planning experience to clients right across the UK. Established in 2021, we continue to grow and develop the financial planning service that clients receive and support them on their life journey.

With the rise of AI-supported advice, questions are emerging around the cost of traditional financial advice compared to the value clients truly receive. We believe the devil is in the detail.

AI and social media are increasingly being adopted across financial planning practices, reflecting the benefits they can offer in areas such as access to information, simplification and tools that support individual client circumstances. This trend is echoed by the growing number of UK adults – now estimated at over 28 million – using a form of AI to help manage aspects of their finances[1].

However, important nuances remain. While advancing technology is becoming more accessible and sophisticated, questions persist around whether, or to what extent, it can complement or replace human connection. In particular, AI arguably will have limitations in interpreting the emotional and personal factors often associated with significant life events – areas where professional financial planning continues to play a critical role.

While AI-supported advice can be cheaper and simpler to access, it may not always capture the full complexity of financial decision-making. Research from MoneyWeek suggests that generative AI tools can produce inaccurate responses in certain finance and investment scenarios, highlighting the need for users to proceed with care.[2]

Also, a recent survey from Unbiased[3] report that 7 out of 10 people would prefer financial advice from a human, rather than AI. Trust and personal connection were repeatedly cited as the main reasons for preferring human advice.

With so much financial information readily available, individuals are increasingly encouraged to take an active role in building their financial understanding. The ongoing “advice gap” remains a challenge – especially for those at the start of their journey – and access to regulated advice can be more difficult to access for younger generations.

This is reflected in the latest Boring Money Business report for 2025, showcasing that over 12.3M people in the UK sit within the “advice gap” with only 9% of people in the UK engaging with a Financial Planner.[4]

Financial planning continues to present an opportunity to demonstrate the value of high-quality advice – through strong client collaboration, a deep understanding of individual circumstances and the positive outcomes that come from supporting clients through change.

We are proud to support clients across the UK through offering our services virtually whilst still offering that ‘personal touch’ throughout their financial journey. The value we provide lies in the partnership between the Financial Planner and the client, working together as life evolves and delivering high-quality, regulated advice every step of the way.
